Why would those today use this? To do what they want? To accept some behavior or action?
Paul said that if the resurrection did not happen, then you need to eat, drink, and be merry. But because Jesus is alive, we realize the meaning that of our life is though that relationship.
Roman 6:1-2
If grace is so great, why not just sin all the more? If we are taking Jesus at his word, how could we justify to ourself to continue to do that which he believes is not right.
Jesus chose hell for us. He provided a way that we could not provide for ourself. It was an unearned gift by god to me. And because we are buried with Jesus, we are raised with him as well. We are created a new creature, to live a new life filled with his righteousness.
I am no longer defined by the sin in my life. I am defined by gods saving grace.
Everything Jesus did is for us.

We need to settle in ourselves the truth of gods work. That we are dead to sin and alive to god. Faith is accepting what god is true, and allowing that to reflect in who we are.
6:12-13
We are to offer our obedience as an expression of our faith. We are already in relationship with him. God is not telling us to jump through hoops to get to relationship. We begin with the relationship, and then the obedience is a outpouring of that relationship.
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (ESV)
6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. (ESV)
