This week we remember the life of Jim Hillary who has gone to the Lord. As we remember the genuine life that Jim lived out, we remember what Paul told us about living life.
Paul reminds us that for us, to live is Christ and our gain is in death. We know that eternity is promised, and we gain when we get to go be with the Lord. The world, in its lost condition, wants to turn this around. They feel that they must gain in life because they don’t believe in the eternity.
In 1 Thessalonians, Paul said that he doesn’t want us to grieve death as the unbeliever. We grieve the loss, but we have hope in eternity. And in , Paul reminds us that we neither live or die to ourselves. But we live and die to the Lord.
So as we remember our good friend Jim, we also will allow his example to be a part of our living in Christ going forward.
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (ESV)
7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (ESV)
