In the attached video, it is explained how the Star Spangled Banner came to be created.
Liberty comes from God. Government was created to protect that God-given liberty. But we are seeing more and more that government taking control and determining liberty itself. When we look at the founding fathers, we see many who are not Christians (in the strictest definition) but we saw many who understood that God was the one who granted freedom to men.
In Romans, Paul explains that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. Because of this extreme showing of love, we make righteousness our goal and not sinfulness.
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,…”
God removes all punishment for the sin that we live in when we chose to faithfully choose Jesus as Lord and accept his salvation. This is the first aspect of being free.
“…because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”
Law of the Spirit and life is based in the truth of Jesus. The law of sin and death begins to govern when we reject the truth of Jesus. The law of spirit is freedom, where the law of sin and death is imprisonment.
“For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man,…”
Freedom means that God has empowered my life by pardoning me from my own sinfulness. That I can go forward with the truth of Jesus’ sacrifice for me. That we are to live well in the construct of our own lives and influence.
8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (ESV)
2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. (ESV)
3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, (ESV)
