It is a bold statement to say, “Here’s my heart, Lord. Speak what is true.”
Here we see God described as the author, pioneer, or pathfinder for salvation. Because God loved us so much, because He wanted us to be with Him in glory, He then had to make a way so that would happen. Jesus was made fit to die for us, to make a way to God. That is why Jesus calls us brothers and sisters because we are made alive with Jesus and we are raised to the level of Jesus.
It is absolutely fascinating that there is no other belief system that provides salvation through faith alone. But be clear, Jesus is the author of salvation. You cannot go anywhere else for salvation. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Jesus.
On the day of Passover, on the day that Jesus is on trial, it was customary to release a prisoner. On that day there was a man named Barabbas who was a convicted murderer and the cause of riots against Rome. But the crowd chose to release Barabbas and called for the crucifixion of Jesus. And they rejected the life-giver. And today, while we are not choosing to release Barabbas, we do find that people reject the life-giver to accept something else.
The “Author of Life” is unique to Jesus. Here’s my heart, Lord. Speak what is true. Here’s my life, Lord. Speak what is true.
In the chapter prior, we see the “faith chapter” where people might not know exactly what that means, they are called to believe God. And it was through that belief that salvation was given. And it was the faith of those before the life of Jesus that salvation was given because they believed that God was providing salvation and Jesus’ sacrifice and triumph over death covered those in the past, present, and future.
“What about those who do not know Jesus?” If they put their trust in God to provide salvation, salvation was assured.
